Great news for console gamers everywhere, as just a couple of years after launching their next-gen consoles, Microsoft and Sony are working on Xbox Two and PlayStation 5.
- The PlayStation 4 and the Xbox One were released barely two years ago
- The PlayStation 5 will be VR compatible
- Both the Xbox Two and the PlayStation 5 will support a 4K resolution
- The PlayStation 5 will most likely lack a disk drive
- Microsoft claims that the Xbox Two will be backwards compatible
There usually is about a 7 year wait between console generations, and it seems that the next one will be launched right on time.
After an announcement by Sony in which they stated that they are already working on the PS5, Microsoft also issued a statement claiming they are working on the Xbox Two.
Both companies stated that they will be taking their time with the development of the next generation consoles, as they want to maximize the processing power and efficiency of their products.
According to Shuhei Yoshida, the Sony Worldwide Studios President, the company has started working on the PS5 prototype ever since 2014, as the company has a wide range of goals they want to accomplish with their products, and the PlayStation 4 just didn’t have the necessary machine power.
Sony told excited fans worldwide to expect a slimmer, lighter, and sleeker version of the console and this has led technology experts to speculate that the new console will be lacking a disk drive.
This means that the company will officially move to digital downloads and straming exclusively, finally putting behind the age of the compact disk. The claims also attributed a new, extremely performant chipset by AMD to the new generation console.
Of course, Microsoft couldn’t fall too far behind in the on-going console war, so they also made public some the inner workings behind their next gen console.
However, all they reported was that they will definitely get a console out to compete with PlayStation, that it will support 4K resolution, and that it will work great with smart TVs. They also said that their new console will be backwards compatible.
Of course, the launch date will be around 2018 or 2020, in order to follow the current trends, but also to maximize the processing power of the consoles, by equipping with the best pieces of technology that will be out at that point in time.
