Nothing is worse in the winter than a thermostat that doesn’t work and unfortunately the Nest thermostat stopped working because of bug.
- Nest thermostat is owned by Google
- The device connect to the internet and can be controlled from anywhere
- A software glitch occurred which made the thermostat stop heating
Although we can all agree that this is probably one of the mildest winters ever, it is still winter, which means it is cold and after being outside freezing you’re looking forward to getting home and warm up. But what happens if you’re freezing inside as well?
We use thermostats to control the heat in our homes and although the traditional one work quite well, we usually look for the new smart ones which should allow us to control our heating from anywhere, provided you have a smartphone and internet connection.
Nest, a thermostat owned by Google is one of the smart ones. But unfortunately, the device’s software has caught a bug which made several of these gadgets stop working. This, of course, made many people freeze and, consequently get angry.
How did the bug “work”? Apparently it all started with a poor software update which drained the devices’ batteries and made the devices to turn on and off repeatedly and therefore failed to heat the home or heat the water. Being cold and not being able to take a hot shower was too much for the owners of the Nest who made everything public by complaining on social media sites such as Twitter.
Some of the users are concerned even about the fact that the water pipes could burst if the thermostat doesn’t work anymore and doesn’t heat the water anymore. Many of the users decided to go back to their old thermostat. You can’t start it if you’re not at home, but at least you’ve got heat.
On the other hand, Nest not only can be controlled from outside the house but it also learns your schedule and it will turn on and off depending on whether you are at home or not, adjusting to to right temperature.
Nest has been looking into the problem and found the glitch into a December update. However, they say that other issues may occur if the boilers or air filters are not compatible with the device. According to them, the only thing you should to for temporarily solving the problem is restarting the device. Nest promises to come up with an official solution in only a few weeks.
