Yesterday was Super Bowl Sunday, but NASA astronaut Scott Kelly partied by himself in space as he watched the Denver Broncos square off against the Carolina Panthers.

It doesn’t sound like the best party that has ever been thrown considering there might’ve not been enough people for that. Astronaut Scott Kelly hosted a Super Bowl 50 party, though the “unique” location kept most of his guests away. It’s unfortunate too, as Kelly exclaimed that he “would’ve served nachos!”.
Last Sunday, the astronaut joined millions of others in watching the Super Bowl, with their attention intently placed on Levi’s Stadium to enjoy the game. As per tradition, Super Bowl Sunday arrives with friends, beer, nachos, perhaps some hot wings, and overall good times for most Americans. Even though Kelly is on board of the International Space Station (ISS), which is 250 miles above Earth, he didn’t want to miss out.
So, the astronaut decided to throw a Super Bowl 50 party, though it was low in attendance. Kelly joked of this disappointment on Twitter that “No one showed up”. Instead, he enjoyed the game by himself as he orbited around Earth. It likely wasn’t a great party, but it was certainly a very unique one with bland snacks, but one of the best views there is in the world.
Kelly is on board of the ISS as part of his “Year in Space” mission, which he is 317 days in. The astronaut has been keeping himself live on Twitter, offering smart replies and amusing anecdotes, along with some details about the tough conditions in space. That included hygiene, going to the bathroom, along with other aspects that are not as glamorous as some people might think.
However, Kelly seems to be keeping his spirits up in spite of the isolation away from his family and harsh conditions. In fact, he enjoyed watching the Super Bowl by himself, sharing another titbit with his followers on Twitter. The astronaut is a devoted Houston Texans fan, so he didn’t offer an opinion on the game’s result, which ended with the Broncos defeating the Panthers 24-10.
Kelly even posted a picture as the ISS passed over the stadium, claiming himself to be glad that he was “finally” able to see the Super Bowl “in person”. That was at 17,500 miles per hour and from 250 miles away though, so he didn’t get to see it for long. And, while it’s safe to say Kelly has a spectacular view of the world, he may have had the worst seat possible for the game.
