CuriosityStream, a platform for documentaries, worked together with Stephen Hawking for the release of the film “Stephen Hawking’s Favorite Places” in which the famous scientists talks about extraterrestrial life. In this new documentary, the brilliant astrophysicist takes its public into a journey around the Universe. Hawking guides his viewers in his CGI spacecraft, driving them to five amazing places from the Universe that managed to trigger his curiosity and inspiration.
- Stephen Hawking takes us in an outer space journey.
- The scientist expresses his view on extraterrestrial life.
The point from which everything starts is, of course, The Big Bang. We all know that this represents the birth of space and time. This subject was one of Hawking’s most debated theories, who still wonders how the Universe appeared. The next place the viewers visit along with the scientist is Sagittarius A, an enormous black hole. There, he brings to the public his theory about black holes, adding a personal touch of humor. The existence of extraterrestrial life ignites Hawking’s passion for the unknown.
The next stop along the journey is Gliese 832C. This embodies the planet which most resembles the Earth. The astrophysicist believes that this planet is most likely to hide extraterrestrial life. Now that his favorite subject came in handy, he starts talking about “The Breakthrough Listen” project. His work aspires of discovering extraterrestrial life in cosmos through listening for signs that intelligent beings could send.
The fourth stop is Saturn, which Hawking likes to call the most extraordinary planet from our Solar System. Then, he starts explaining to his public data about Saturn’s rings and its 60 moons that orbit around the massive planet. His last point in his outer space journey is home. He gets back to Earth, in California, at Santa Barbara, where part of his scientific oriented activities started. This was the place where he began his career at Cal Tech.
He claims that he wants to reach a single goal: the fully understanding of the mysteries of the Universe. This also implies getting to reach palpable proofs which demonstrate extraterrestrial life is not just fantasy. His film, “Stephen Hawking’s Favorite Places,” is only the first film from a series which is yet to be published. People from CuriosityStream aim to transform this experience into a bigger project, trying to make other movies with different important scientists of our time who will also be eager to share their knowledge with us.
What is your opinion on extraterrestrial life, now that we found out Hawing’s view? Are you curious to find out if more studies will eventually prove this is real?
