An Alaskan Volcano Has Recently Erupted

Recently, an Alaskan volcano has erupted causing a disaster of lava and ash. For the third time in three days, Bogoslof Volcano has burst out again. Thus, the Alaska Volcano Observatory has recently announced the highest alert level prohibiting air traveling. Luckily for inhabitants, the volcano is isolated on an island. The uninhabited island is situated at approximately 60 miles northwest of Unalaska.

Last Friday, on December 23, the volcano had violently erupted, blowing ash into the air at about 30,000 feet, ejected great amounts of lava. Specialists argued that they are not able to establish exactly how long the eruption will last because on Bogosof there are no monitoring tools which could have helped them.

Back in 1992, there was the last time when the Alaskan volcano erupted. Repetitive eruptions have been going on for a month then. After researchers witnessed two explosions in two days, they have oriented towards analyzing another volcano situated in the eastern Aleutians. Even though scientists did not install any equipment on Bogoslof Volcano, the Alaska Volcano Observatory is keeping an eye on the seismic monitors and satellite images which they receive.

Apparently, this Alaskan volcano is not so big, being estimated to have the same size as a regular city park. What is more, this uninhabited island is four times smaller than the famous Central Park in New York City. Michelle Coombs, an observatory scientist, has recently argued that the recent outbursts of the Alaska volcano have caused the formation of a new land.

She claimed that their most recent observations suggest that the newly formed landform is situated offshore of the small island. Apparently, the eruption of this volcano has both advantages and disadvantages. Firstly, it caused the formation of land, and secondly, unfortunately, it destroyed part of the island due to the lava and spurts of ash.

The newly formed land is located under the sea, proving that the seismic activity is even more challenging. When a volcano erupts, seismic waves move through the ground. If undersea vents form, then scientists obtain two different sets of waves. Firstly, there appear the expected waves that move through the ground and secondly, a new set of waves forms, crossing the water. This is one of the reasons why scientists are unable to predict how long the eruption will last.
