During the “Brain vs. Artificial Intelligence” Texas Hold’em Poker tournament, artificial intelligence robots win against human poker pro. What is more, a machine named Libratus is destroying many professional human players. If this robot maintains its lead estimated at $701,242, it will be viewed as a significant achievement for the world of AI.
- AI developers see HUNL as a challenge, trying to develop the best bot capable to win every poker game.
- This year at the tournament, Libratus has defeated many professional players.
- The “Brain vs. Artificial Intelligence” tournament started on January 11.
Given the consequences, Heads-Up, No-Limit Texas Hold’em poker (HUNL) will soon be added to the list of games where AI defeated the best individuals. The list includes games like Go, Jeopardy!, checkers, chess, and Othello. However, unlike Go and chess, this version of poker includes imperfect information, hidden cards and bluffing which appear to be difficult for artificial intelligent robots to handle.
Computer specialists believe that HUNL represents the “last frontier” of game solving, being a breakthrough in the evolution of AI. It is also an achievement which would be considered a significant step forward for human-like intelligence. The tournament known as “Brain vs. Artificial Intelligence” started on January 11 and is being held at Rivers Casino in Pittsburgh.
Libratus is fighting against professional players like Daniel McAulay, Jason Les, Jimmy Chou and Song Kim. Libratus is an AI machine which was developed at Carnegie Mellon University by computer scientists. The players are struggling to win the big prize of $200,000. They represent some of the best players in the world, but, nonetheless, their AI opponent is fantastic.
Last weekend, Libratus triggered everyone’s amazement when it managed to win $459,154 in chips in approximately 5,000 hands played until the end of day 9 of the tournament. By the end of the game on Monday, January 23, the computer managed to win $701,242, surpassing the performance of the second place contender.
Unfortunately, no matter how hard they try, those professional players will never reach to step up on the game of artificial intelligent robots. The problem is that the robot gets better at this game as the days go by, behaving like the improved version of human professional players. Back in 2015, the tournament was won by AI machines.
However, this competition known as HUNL is more likely to be a challenge for AI developers. They compete in building the most competent AI bot prone to win every poker game.
