Game of Thrones Might Not See Viserion as the Much Awaited Ice Dragon

game of thrones dragon
Game of Thrones TV show reached the proportions of a televised behemoth. The day after the streaming of an episode the online world explodes with the latest theories, scenarios, and hints that help the community of fans take a better grasp of this immersive fictional world. Episode 6 of season 7 revealed how Daenerys has just lost one of her three babies. On the other hand, the White Walkers have just gained an important ally, an ice dragon. However, despite its majestic force, Viserion might be after all just another wight.

The Books of A Song of Ice and Fire Offer Explanations on the Two Types of Dragons This Fictional World Holds

In order to shed some light on this confusion, let’s take a look at the explanations that the books of A Song of Ice and Fire hold. The author George R. R. Martin identified two kinds of dragons.

The most feared and common ones are fire-breathing creatures. They originate from the Old Valyria, an ancient empire. This was when people started to control them and even ride them as giant winged horses.

However, the golden times of dragons ended together with a mysterious event known as the Doom of Valyria. The only vestige of this past period was a noble House of Targaryen and a few left dragons.

In the end, there were only three fossilized eggs that Daenerys received for her wedding, and we all know how she became the mother of dragons.

Viserion Might Have Been Downgraded from the Potential of an Ice Dragon to the Mindless Body of a Wight

On the other hand, there are ice dragons as well. Their place of origin was the frozen lands of the Shivering Sea east of Westeros. The only time they get mentioned is when Nan tells Stark boys stories and legends of the past.

These creatures can breathe deadly, icy breaths and are much larger in size than Valyrian dragons. On top of that, it is said that their bodies are entirely made of ice.

Therefore, Viserion might have just turned white and blue-eyed as this legendary creature. However, it won’t play the ice dragon everyone was excited to see in this Game of Thrones realm.

Instead, White Walkers turned it simply into another wight. Its powers are not to underestimate yet. Nonetheless, Viserion was downgraded into a mindless undead that acts as it is told to do.
