Health experts in Britain have recently blasted KFC over selling Milky Bar Krushems containing 15 teaspoons (60 gr) of sugar.
KFC Milkshakes
Experts think the ‘sugar in a glass’ of KFC milkshakes, which are very popular with kids and adults alike, are a sure-fire way of developing diabetes.
The calorie-packed treat, which appears on the KFC menu as a “frozen treat topped with crushed white chocolate,” contains way more sugar than it is considered healthy.
- According to official guidelines, a child between the ages seven and ten should consume no more than six teaspoons (24 gr) of added sugar per day.
- Adults are not allowed to exceed seven teaspoons (30 gr) of sugar per day.
However, KFC seems oblivious to those guidelines. Its other popular menu items like the Skittles Krushem, the Caramel Fudge Cream Ball, and the Indulgent Chocolate Cream Ball contain record levels of added sugar per serving. These three products contain 12 teaspoons of sugar each.
Health Experts Accuse KFC of Sickening the Nation
Health concerned consumers believe that KFC and other fast food chains are fueling the country’s already rampant obesity epidemic. Excess sugar intake is also linked to tooth cavities and diabetes.
Kawther Hashem, who leads the Action on Sugar public awareness campaign described KFC milkshakes as ‘sugar in a glass’ since they can pack as many as 15 teaspoons of sugar in one serving.
Hashem explained that fast food restaurants are actively pushing for sugary products, creating a ‘public health crisis’. The activist thinks that the U.K. government should come up with tougher measures against such practices.
The British Dental Association confirmed that sugar has fueled tooth decay in the U.K. population and made Britain the ‘fattest nation’ in Western Europe. The group called for the fast food industry to find ways to wean the country off its sugar addiction, as parents are overpowered.
