Skype co-founder “Janus Friis” and the team of tech veterans that include – technology leaders from Apple, Nokia, and Microsoft have developed a communication app called “Wire”. The newly introduced app is different from Skype in many ways. It combines different elements from its rival applications such as WhatsApp, Skype, and Slack.
The Skype co-founder while talking to The Guardian said,
“What attracted me to Wire is that it is something truly new. This is not some marginal improvement. This is not just an app. What the team has done is a complete from-the-ground-up reimagination of what communication should be,”
Wire is totally focused on the conversations. Apart from simply sending messages, audios and videos, Wire lets you send YouTube videos as well as SoundCloud videos. The conversations can be one-to-one or one-to-many.
Wire smartly arranges your contacts according regularity of your chats and the time of the day or week. It brings the BlackBerry Messenger feature ‘Ping’ where you can ‘ping’ these contacts to get their attention. Also, muting irritating conversation threads is made extremely simple.
Something that WhatsApp recently implemented – the end-to-end message encryption is used in Wire since the launch. Wire offers this encryption for all the messages and voice calls as well.
One of the important feature is the voice calls which are rendered in extremely high quality with Opus open source audio codec, which was co-developed by the company’s chief scientist Koen Vos.
In addition to this, Wire is visually pleasing. It features the design which is far different from other messengers out there. It got hints of the material design by Google in Android 5.0 Lollipop and the iOS 8.
Wire is available for free on iOS, OS X and Android platforms.
