Starting with April 10 the highly anticipated device will be available for pre-order. Shipping will begin from April 24. An important factor in setting consumer expectations is the first reviews which have started to appear online. The feedback is very positive although many features of the Apple Watch are yet unknown. This has perhaps led to the generalization of the features of the device, but overall the expectations are high.
Farhad Manjoo from New York Times explained that it took him three long, frustrating and confusing days to figure out how the watch woks, but when he finally figured it out he completely fell in love with it. It took Manjoo a day to get used to the user interface of the watch. In the second day he figured out how the watch could be adjusted to his needs and in the third day he discovered what the device actually does. On day four the watch already seemed to him like an extension of his body.
What makes Apple Watch to be so “waylaid” is the fact that it is the first gadget released by Apple since the passing of Steve Jobs.
The design of the device was much appreciated. It may function as a normal timepiece but it is a piece of tech with a very beautiful crafting. However, according to The Verge, the watch is also surprisingly heavy. Apple Watch won’t resemble the iPhone. It is provided with a series of different inputs such as a knob for zooming and scrolling, a digital crown and a touch screen which needs to be pressed down harder in order to have access to additional options. There will be no full on-screen keyboard and the outbound messages will use default responses and emoji. In addition Apple Watch relies on voice dictation.
For some people the device will be difficult to use and some may say that they would not need an Apple Watch since they already have a phone. The gadget may not work perfectly for all the customers right away. It takes some time to learn how it works and this may discourage some people. Obviously Apple already expects this so the company will provide try-on sessions for the customers. Moreover employees go through training in order to learn how to help customers to use the watch.
The purpose of the watch is not to solve a problem. The aim is to improve a solution which already works, but which can at the same time be more polished and styled. What Apple aims is to create a new market space.
