The body of Boston terrorism suspect Usaamah Abdullah Rahim has yet to find its resting place, as the Massachusetts cemetery in which his family wanted to lay him to rest has opposed the burial based on the accusations he faced. The interment was initially scheduled to take place on Friday afternoon.
The information was disclosed by Imam Abdullah Faruuq of the Roxbury Mosque for Praising Allah, which Rahim used to frequent. Faruuq told CNN that Canton’s Knollwood Memorial Park has refused to inter Rahim due to the fact that investigation into the 26-year old’s death seems to pin him down as a suspected terrorist.
On its official website, Knollwood Memorial Park lists itself as a nonsectarian cemetery which is open to all members of the community, regardless of religious faith. Knollwood representatives have yet to comment on the situation, but Imam Faruuq said that the family has succeeded in securing another cemetery for the body of Rahim.
Rahim was shot earlier this week in Boston by an FBI agent and a local police officer after allegedly waving the knife menacingly towards the officer. Details surfaced afterwards claimed that Rahim was already under surveillance by the FBI for possible terrorist activity and that he planned to go on a killing spree by murdering Boston law enforcement officers with a knife. His cousin David Wright was later arrested in connection to the case after trying to obstruct the investigation by destroying a cell phone.
The FBI reacted quickly to the situation after gathering information about Rahim’s plan and following up on a phone call in which he seemed to be saying goodbye to his father. The video of the shooting has not yet been released to the public but has been shown to Rahim’s family and leaders of Massachusetts’ Muslim community. This included his brother Ibrahim, who initially declared on social media that his brother was shot by the police without reason, but withdrew the comments after being shown the video.
More details of the investigation suggest that Usaamah Rahim had initially targeted blogger and Islam critic Pamela Geller, who hosted a controversial cartoon drawing contest about Prophet Mohammed last month in Texas, which prompted an armed attack from two radical Islamist assailants who were gunned down by the police. Apparently, Rahim had planned to capture and decapitate Geller, and switched his focus towards killing police officers due to accessibility.
