Given the recent online discussions in relation to the vulnerability of the Galaxy generation phones, here is how Samsung plans to solve the Galaxy Keyboard bug. The company issued a press release on Thursday informing customers that they will be releasing an update for the language software that will help protect smartphones from hackers’ attacks.
Samsung was taken aback this week when a security company wrote that Galaxy smartphones are vulnerable to hackers’ attacks due to a keyboard glitch. Based on the researches they have made, the keyboard bug enabled ill-intentioned men to get access to users’ phone content through the Wi-Fi connection.
To put it in lay words, the smartphone app automatically connects to a Wi-Fi whenever there is one available in proximity. The language software, then automatically scans and installs updates, without asking for permission.
Some of these updates may be replaced by hackers with corrupt files, so they would gain access to the phone’s content. According to the security company, this back door access enables attackers to listen to phone conversations, read messages and even to monitor the camera and the display of the user.
For that matter, security companies and Samsung customers urged the smartphone producer to adopt measures as quickly as possible. The Japanese company initially tried to delay works for the solution of the problem, but they were constrained by the increasing risks that Galaxy S5, S6, and S4 models are subject to.
Spokespersons of the smartphone developer told the press that they first addressed this issue in December 2014. Unfortunately, the glitch could not be solved back then through their conjoined efforts and now the story surfaced in the media.
Samsung told customers that the Galaxy S6, S5 and S4 are the only ones that are vulnerable to the SiwftKey bug. As a consequence they will release an update for these models in the following weeks to help protect smartphones from hackers.
The problem has become all the more worrisome as the bug has been described in the media on numerous occasions. These step-by-step instructions, showing hackers how to gain access to the smartphone content, might have enabled other ill-intentioned people to try break phones, Samsung explained at the end of their official declaration.
The company has concluded that the back door access is not as easy as the security network suggested. On the contrary, the smartphone user and the hacker have to be at the same time on the same vicious Wi-Fi network in order for the update to be replaced with a corrupt file. Otherwise, phone hacking is not possible.
