We’ve been constantly teased by BlackBerry’s wish to reinvent itself by making a completely new type of smartphone. Now, a leaked photo shows BlackBerry’s Android smartphone named Venice.
The popular Twitter account @evleaks, attributed to Evan Blass, provided a picture showing the lower side of the display along with a three-row keyboard much resembling that of earlier BlackBerry models like the Passport.
The account has also posted that the phone company has made a partnership with AT&T to deliver the phone to the costumers.
The photo shows the device has the three Android specific buttons for home, back, and multi-window, intermixed with other symbols on the lower side of the screen. These add up to a total of six buttons. This is the clearest hint at the fact that Venice may have Android, though it is still too early to say or sure.
What is known is that BlackBerry have expressed their desire to use the Android operating system by Google, according to Reuters. There it was said that this move by the Canadian company would pertain to their strategy of focusing on device and software management. The report also hinted at the device being a slider, and having a QWERTY keyboard, one of BlackBerry’s trademarks. It is rumored that the phone will be launched somewhere in the fall of this year.
Since the photo was leaked, neither BlackBerry, nor Google have made any statement regarding the possible partnership between the two and refused any comment when prompted.
The smartphone was announced for the first time at the 2015 Mobile World Congress that took place in Barcelona earlier this year in March, without many details being given as to what exactly it would be like. Rumors have it that the phone will have almost out-of-this-world specifications.
A quite large, even for smartphones, QHD display measuring 5.4 inch will be the most striking feature of the device. The main camera will have a staggering 18 megapixels, which will put it right up there with the Lumia camera phones. Apart from the main camera, you’ll be able to take crystal clear selfies with the 5 megapixel eye in the front. The device will also boast 3GB of RAM and a whopping 64-bit hexacore Snapdragon 808 processor made by Qualcomm which will allow you to make perfect use of any app imaginable.
So, the question remains: will BlackBerry rise again? Does this device have enough potential to resuscitate the legacy of the company?
