In a new update, Facebook adds a new pop-up feature to videos posted on the News Feed. The most popular social networking website is looking to increase the number of viewers on their videos, adding new options in order to keep users on their platform and not get redirected.
So, get ready to look at cat videos while scrolling through your News Feed.
The pop-out option is available in the lower right corner of the bar that will force the video to fly out to the bottom left corner of your screen when activated. That will offer full visibility of the page while reading down the list of posts.
The video will follow down as you scroll through the same page and it can be dragged to different positions, and the usual options such as like or share will also be available. If a second video will be played, the first will automatically stop. This will also happen if you move onto the next page.
And if the pop-out option is clicked on the second video, it will replace the first, meaning that a user cannot have two ‘floating videos’ up at the same time nor simultaneous plays.
It’s not the first website to present the pop-up feature, as other popular companies such as YouTube or Tumblr have already taken the step to letting their viewers multitask.
However, Facebook has shown themselves to become very interested lately in competing with video-viewing websites, though it could prove to be tougher than expected to take down titans such as YouTube. Even for them.
They have already suffered a bit of a backlash from advertisers for charging sponsored video the second they click ‘play’.
The new floating video feature has come with a few additions as well. A Facebook engineer has remarked on previous updates done to the News Feed to further engage the user into his or her interests by keeping related videos higher up.
People who generally view videos will see them much higher in their posts lists than those who don’t watch videos. They will also be taking into account a user’s interests by showing related or similar videos on the News Feed, along with a mention if you turned the volume up, enabled high definition or made the video full screen.
Adding a new pop-out feature might increase the number of views on posts as well. A music video can easily be allowed to play while reading through your News Feed and possibly even scrolling through advertisements.
It opens up a few options as users no longer have to open additional tabs in order to keep the video playing while read the rest of their Facebook home page.
