According to US sales, last month has seen the PlayStation 4 and Batman team top the charts in most sold consoles and, respectively, most sold game. Even more, they reached that lead together.
Sony’s PlayStation 4 has been a very good sidekick for the Arkham Knight, boosting both of them to number one in sales. While both Sony and Microsoft are offering each other excellent competition, it seems PlayStation 4 has won last month’s race. However, that neither means that Xbox One is out of it or that it has been doing badly.
Quite the contrary. Xbox One sales are up 51% from last year, which is estimated at around 297,000 units, as there are no official numbers provided by the company just yet. Microsoft is not slacking in the slightest, especially after their success following gaming event E3.
Both companies had their own presentations and big titles revealed, but the following week after E3 has seen to Xbox One dominating sales, even if PlayStation 4 took the lead by the end of the month. It seems that Microsoft pulled out one excellent display for potential customers, seeing a 79% increase from the same event last year.
However, Sony won the mid-summer race, pulling out bigger numbers and, apparently, with the help of Batman: Arkham Knight. The third installment of the Arkham series is the top selling game on all platforms, both consoles and PC, in spite the blunder of bugs and glitches that won’t be fixed until fall.
The Arkham Knight is the second best sold game of the year in retail sales, following the tenth installment of popular fighting game Mortal Kombat X. Which, in all fairness, might prove difficult to defeat for any game to come out in 2015.
Furthermore, most copies of the most recent Batman game were sold on PlayStation 4, whose lead was largely attributed to the Arkham Knight taking over in June. It also definitely helped that Sony made their own customized version of the console that featured Batman: The Arkham Knight.
June is usually not the most exciting month for gaming, but this year it has seen vast increases from last year. Nintendo was very successful too. Wii U fared well, with the game Splatoon holding steady in top 5 best sold games of the month, selling 290,000 copies to amount to the over 1 million copies worldwide.
The year is just barely over its first half and it remains to be seen which platform and game will be granted the award of ‘Best sold in 2015’. If judging by the number of titles available and the horse race between Sony and Microsoft, it’s anyone’s game.
