Among a fast moving world where social media is mostly intended for mobile use, changes are being made to desktop versions as well, and you can now ‘Search’ on Instagram Web. The most active photo sharing service is taking steps to amending the differences between their mobile and computer version.
One of the ways of keeping users active and constantly interested is making improvements that would benefit their experiences. Only last month, Instagram has rolled out a newly designed interface for the web, bringing features closer to those resembling on the mobile app.
With its growth in popularity, the Facebook-owned social media application finds itself in need of developing and progressing beyond their status of an app intended for smartphone uses. The bridge is slowly being gapped and is now aided by the addition of a new search bar.
Found centered at the top of the page, the Search option will allow users to properly browse through the website, developing an engine that can search for hastags, locations, accounts, trends or popular uploads. The change fits flawlessly with recent changes made to profile displays and feeds, and it all seems to take example from the mobile app.
It’s not unexpected though. Instagram was originally meant for smartphone use only, but its popularity of having 300 million active users every month has seen the need for offering the same to web services. And only 30% reside within the United States. Unlike Facebook, it seems that the photo sharing app has seen greater success outside the country.
Approximately 70 million pictures are reportedly being uploaded every month, but the lines are not drawn at just the average day user. Famous brands and celebrities are using Instragram now to promote events or offer regular updates on their activities.
The new addition to their web services also deems the use of third party browsers such as Webstagram and Findgram as null, with the company wanting to further monetize by catering for all the services themselves. It only stands to reason, considering their popularity and vast development opportunities with Facebook as its owner.
While Facebook holds the rank of number one for larger enterprises and movie studios, Instagram provides faster services, with a less detailed but more visually concerned types of posts. It’s simple, creative and promotes interaction above all.
