A few weeks ago, it was reportedly tanking and yet Apple Watch is still ahead with 4.2M sold in Q2, stacking far from its competition. Early reports in July have claimed that the Apple wearable product was going down in flames and yet it seems the flame still burns bright.
According to Canalys, 4.2 million units of Apple’s iWatch were sold in the second quarter of 2015, beating out its competition once more in spite of its much higher pricing. While rivals such as Fitbit and Xiaomi offer similar services in smart watches with much more affordable price tags, the public still seems adamant on purchasing the luxury wrist jewelry from Apple.
Ranging between prices of $350 and the gold edition of $10,000 it’s quite clear that the iWatch is much less a simple gadget and much more a high-end, luxury item to grace the wrists of customers. The simple functionality has changed with the introduction of smart watches.
Their first and foremost function, telling time, has fallen to the wayside due to the multiple functions that can now be achieved and carried with us around our wrists. Among quite a few of its competitors, Apple still stands out as number one in providing a multifunctional gadget that apparently also just happens to be a watch.
It’s not yet decided if Apple Watch will become a stable part of the future, but future models might see improvement over what is currently the best sold wearable worldwide. Vital details such as battery life and sensor integration should see enhancement for future models in order to boost its draw to potential customers.
Though this is currently just speculation, reports have it that a less expensive option of Apple Watch is in the works and will be available in the future, perhaps to further boost their sales. An affordable version could increase the volume in demand, which while beats out its competitors, is nowhere near comparable to other products from the same company.
So far, smart watches are not believed to have reached the peak of their existence, with companies everywhere still attempting to improve the attraction of wearing a high-end gadget on your wrist. It remains to be seen if they will be successful due to more affordable prices, future changes in design and much needed improvements, but it has been reported that even powerful brand name such as Casio are joining the market.
