Samsung recently revealed a new service called Samsung Pay on TV. The company recently introduced a payment service that will allow users to buy content directly on some of its more recent Smart TVs.
The service has been designed from the ground up to give users a safe and easy way to pay directly on their TVs using PayPal, debit cards and credit cards, Samsung said.
Once the users register within the new payment service, all they will have to do is just push the “Pay Now” button in the application and enter their PIN number. They will, for instance, be able to make in-app purchases inside games. Samsung said that initially, the service will be offered in 32 countries on certain TVs that were sold either earlier this year or in 2014.
Initially, users won’t be able to buy content for their TVs by using their smartphones. However, Samsung will probably add this feature in the future as well as it would make sense to do so, seeing how the company already has a mobile payment system named Samsung Pay. This will probably make said mobile payment system into one of the more attractive services to date. Samsung only said about the new service that it already has some enhancements on the way. However, the company did not reveal any more information about its plans for the Samsung Pay on TV service in the future.
Chip suppliers like Broadcom are already working on devices that will be able to broaden the use of mobile payment services beyond physical stores. Broadcom launched earlier this year the BCM58100 series of microcontrollers complete with NFC support. The chips are created for terminals of mobile payment, personal computers and other purposes, including products in the line of Internet of Things, the company claimed at the time.
The mobile edition of the payment system is planned to be released in South Korea and the United States in the not too distant future and the tech giant is currently working with partners and banks in order to bring the payment service in Europe as well.
The new Samsung Pay on TV service will only work on some Smart TVs released by Samsung in 2015 and 2014 and in just 32 countries, at least for a while. This means that you should check what kind of TV you own before getting excited about the new payment system.
