Torrent trackers are skeptical, so online pirates make Windows 10 walk the plank as they want no part of the operating system’s privacy issues. There has been a worrying amount of controversy surrounding Microsoft’s new OS and their security policy that has been all but called “spying”.
Some torrent websites, which are frequently used for illegal downloads of virtual data such as games, movies or music, are now engaging in a full on paranoia and starting to ban Windows 10 users from accessing their torrent trackers. Or, they’re right on the money, and Microsoft is indeed watching your every move.
Either option seems to lead to the same conclusion that online pirates are now sailing away from the new operating system by banning the use of trackers, and thus, the torrents will not work. It’s been well known that they’re not typically picky to what kind of user visits and downloads from their websites, so it might cause a bit of a worry as to why their specifically restricting Windows 10.
All other operating systems, along with every single browser, and multiple programs are easily compatible with torrents, and yet, it seems Microsoft’s newest project does not qualify. According to TorrentFreak, there is a clause within the Microsoft’s Services Agreement which has led them to this drastic decision.
The line states that the company reserves its right to automatically provide updates that will stop its users from “playing counterfeit games”. Apparently, it’s specifically directed to Xbox Live and games from Windows Store, and not files downloaded from the outside, but it’s rather clear that the ambiguousness is not the favor of online pirates.
Given their purpose of providing said “counterfeit games” and many others, it has been requested that users understand their decision why they no longer want to associate themselves with Windows 10. The iTS group has stated that the Microsoft OS has a dangerously deep insight into our computer’s information by keeping track of all its data.
That in itself is worrying, though no proof has been provided that there might a way for them to closely follow the content of our personal computers, or selling the data to a third-party. According to iTS, Microsoft is sharing the information with one of the largest anti-piracy companies, MarkMonitor.
While keeping track of all the data on our computer, Microsoft is reportedly forwarding it to MarkMonitor, which will be able to detect the counterfeit games, music or movies, and possibly track it down to the source torrent website.
A few torrent trackers have abandoned Windows 10 as a safe harbor and many more might soon follow.
