A new update is incoming from Sony, and PlayStation 4 3.0 will expand on its social aspects by adding a few more features in order to share your game playing with friends, and the online community.
In fact, the new upgrade, codenamed “Kenshin”, seems to be taking a shot at expanding the YouTube Gaming service, by enabling users to take advantage of the freshly launched live streaming option. The video-sharing website is apparently trying to knock down the live-streaming platform Twitch, and coax some of its millions of users over to their website.
PlayStation 4 players will be allowed in the future to live-stream their games through YouTube should they choose to abandon the popular and usually first-choice, Twitch. It will broaden the spectrum, and offer one more choice for those who partake in showing off their gaming skills or introducing new games for the enjoyment of viewers.
The second major update comes in the form of enhanced online storage space from 1 GB to a whopping 10 GB for PlayStation Plus members, which means far more space for your saves in the cloud. It will be easily accessed and displayed for quick monitoring, in case you’re not sure if there’s enough room left. Although, 10 GB of saves will be difficult to fill.
Other new features include a new hub for Events, which will show you an overview of activities within the games you play the most, not just PlayStation in general. For example, you could catch to that Double XP weekend, or announcements for holiday in-game sales, where several games offer discounts to items.
Further updates have been made to how you manage your Friends list, by adding a Favorite Group. You will be able to create a playlist-like roster of friends or just gamers you prefer of those you join games with the most. It will make creating gaming sessions easier and much faster, depending on the extra functions added to the group.
Communities will be expanded, which will allow users to center around their shared interests in specific games or genres, around which they can make a general board of discussion, add screenshots or join parties. This will be excellent for PlayStation 4 users who don’t have enough people online on their Friends list to create a full party.
Other new functions will include sharing 10-seconds videos on Twitter, stickers in chat, more extensive display in Now Playing, and request to watch a friend playing by putting in a notification that you wish to see them broadcast their gameplay.
No official release date has been given to the update, and it’s only in beta so far, with a few choice PlayStation 4 users able to test and put in their two cents about the new features. It’s also to be noted that more new upgrades can be added, but it so far looks promising.
