In a limited edition that will be available only in the United States, PS Vita goes from black to aqua blue, in an unprecedented shade for Sony devices. The company has been known to keep black as its default color scheme, be it consoles, phones, PlayStation Portable, or the more recent, PlayStation Vita.
It’s simple, elegant, smooth and sleek, but its more colored variant will be coming into stores on November 6th. Though ‘stores’ is quite a generous term. In fact, Sony has announced that the PS Vita Aqua Blue will be an exclusive product sold at GameStop, as announced by the GameStop Managers Conference.
The freshly colored device will set potential owners back $200, now available for pre-ordering for those seeking diversity from their old black PS Vita. Or, if you’re fortunate enough to require a new device altogether, Sony is advertising the Aqua Blue as a valid option.
It boasts the same functions as the PS Vita Black, with a 5-inch, 960×544 pixels display, multi-touch capable screen, support for WiFi connectivity, and, of course, one of its more advanced options of being able to stream games directly from your PlayStation 4 console through Remote Play.
While Sony has offered us different shades in the past of their devices, including some neat designs for consoles that usually come bundled with popular and high grossing games, this is the first time the Japanese company released this particular shade.
According to a few testers, who have seen the physical version of the PS Vita Aqua Blue, the color nicely compliments the design, surprisingly enough. It could certainly brighten up the aspect of the usual PS Vita models, though the black does hold its own elegance and beauty in its simplicity.
Sony has announced that the PS Vita Aqua Blue version is a limited edition, available only until the stock runs out, and that they will not be refreshed once all models are sold. They have not confirmed how many units will become available, but the company has already opened up a portal where interested users can pre-order the bright blue portable device.
It arrives with the same boasts that, since its launch in 2012, the PS Vita is the “home to more than 1,000 games”, also reminding users that titles such as Super Time Ultra Force, Super Meat Boy, and Minecraft: Story Mode, are all available for the handheld Sony-made device.
Meanwhile, Japan is getting the Neon Orange and Glacier White color schemes in a few weeks.
PS Vita received its last update in October 2013, undergoing a small redesign, better battery, a thinner and lighter surface, and all are available for the Aqua Blue.
