The popular browser recently received an update, and according to the company, Google Chrome just got better and faster, with new features that aim to draw more users away from Firefox, Opera, Safari or Microsoft Edge.
It has not been doing badly at all even before though, as reports have it that Google Chrome is used by 45% of the population among all other options. However, they’re updating and expanding on both desktops and mobile devices to make sure that they will forever occupy a leading space in the market.
Google Chrome 45 has is a promising update for Windows, Mac, Linux and Android, that claims to improve performance and save up on battery life, and halt unnecessary usage of the precious RAM resources.
Firstly, Chrome is now apparently much smarter in restoring your tabs after the accidental hit of the ‘x’ button most of us have unfortunately experienced. The browser will effectively keep track of all your tabs, but also load them by a prioritized system, in which the most viewed tab will be loaded the fastest.
This will be a particularly useful feature for those who frequently crowd their bar with numerous tabs. However, if the browser finds your system to be overwhelmed by the multitude of websites opened, it will instantly stop loading those of lower priority.
Another update that is aimed toward saving up valuable memory usage, is that Chrome will keep track of those idle moments of a tab, and use that spare time to clear you of old and unused memory. Which means that there will never be a lazy moment for the browser. The tab might not be busy, but Google’s Chrome certainly will be in keeping your system’s performance high.
Idle hands and all that.
According to Ryan Schoen, a product manager from Google, this feature in particular will reduce website memory usage by an average of 10% or more, depending on the complexity of the app.
The new Flash auto-pause feature, however, will help your laptop or Android device, for example, save even more power. While leaving a tab opened, there are several processes still being loaded by the website unknowingly to the user. Flash ads, for example, are one of the most costly when it comes to memory.
The update will lessen the issue’s effect, because it will automatically pause on any Flash content that is not the main focus on the website. Meaning all those annoying side apps that pose as no interest will be stopped. This will save you 15% of battery usage on your laptop or Android device.
The Google Chrome 45 will be automatically and gradually made available for all users, without the need for an additional download or tinkering. However, it might take a few days, so if you’re impatient, Google has made the option available for manual download.
