The popular, loosely called, dating app Tinder introduces ‘Super Like’ for when a ‘Like’ just won’t do to better help the screening process of left and right swipes while digitally looking for your special someone.
Tinder has become a bit of a phenomenon among the dating scene, making it easier for people to find others who they might perhaps be interested in. With a simple swipe to the right, they indicate their ‘Like’ toward the other, and if the complimented receiver signifies the same, they match and may proceed to chatting.
It’s a simple concept with a clear goal, but has received harsh criticism for being responsible for the “dating apocalypse” by certain publications, and essentially killing modern day dating. However, it has been credited with revolutionizing the “hook-up” scene, which perhaps does not sound quite as appealing for most.
As of 2014, Tinder has registered around 1 billion swipes on their platform, be it to the left or right, and has become highly popular among young adults. Now, to keep things fresh, Tinder introduces the ‘Super Like’ feature, which will add a new way to express interest. Essentially, it sends the message that you really, really like someone.
Due to the complains that many users tend to over-swipe, the dating app has introduced the swipe up, but with a catch. You can only do it once per day, so you may need to save the ‘Super Like’ for someone you truly and genuinely like. At least, according to their Tinder profile.
The person will then be notified by the blue footer, and perhaps prompt them to be extra careful whether they swipe right on the other, or even make them think twice before swiping to the left. According to Tinder CEO, Sean Rad, they believe that this new feature “will lead to even better matches”.
The simple ‘Like’ swipe has been compared to “a glance across the room”, but the ‘Super Like’ will introduce a more “powerful signal”, according to Rad. So, perhaps the new feature could be more comparable to a beckoning finger or battling the eyelashes in the digital world.
The ‘Super Like’ option so far will only be rolled out in Australia for now, which might seem like an odd choice for the New York based app, but they have stated to follow up with its release in all countries later on this year.
So, if you’re a Tinder user or know someone who has been active on the dating profile, there’s now the option of swiping up for signaling that you find someone really special and create an instant match because you really, really like them.
