Fans of the long standing game will soon be faced with a twist, as Pokémon Go is headed for the streets on your phone, and will allow everyone to become a real-life trainer to travel, catch, battle and trade the colorful companions.
Things are about to get almost real. In a partnership with Niantic Labs, Nintendo is launching a new way for the gaming community to experience what is questionably one of their biggest and most famous creations: Pokémon. The franchise could be said that it took over the world, expanding from comics to TV series to color books, card games, video games, and about anything else that one might think of.
Soon though, it’s coming to Android and iOS devices in a way that will not imply the casual gameplay from your living room couch. Instead, The Pokémon Company is working on an augmented reality game that will turn players in real-life trainers that will require them to actually travel in order to find Pocket Monsters, fight them and catch ’em.
Pokémon Go will come attached with the Go Plus device designed to look like the familiar Pokéballs, which are known as the spherical gizmos that trainers use to catch and store certain creatures. Of course, it will not precisely be the same.
Instead, it comes in a small coin-sized device that players can either pin to their clothes or wear on their wrist attached to a customizable bracelet, that will be comfortable wearing and not too encumbering while travelling through your city. The tiny device will light up or vibrate when there will be various events in your vicinity.
It’s set to work seamlessly with the app on your smartphone, which will then further guide you through the real world in order to participate in the game. Players will have to wander to certain locations to find Pokémons, engage in battles with other trainers nearby or even trade among themselves.
According to The Pokémon Company’s president Tsunekazu Ishihara, it will finally be their tackle on the challenge of providing a great game for smartphone devices, which will flawlessly capture the “core values of Pokémon”. It will turn fans from virtual trainers with fixed avatars into real-life Pokémon trainers that need to venture the world in order to experience the game.
Perhaps this will be the way Nintendo makes its big stand in the world of mobile gaming, and it certainly features that ‘different’ quality the community has come to expect from the company. It could potentially be a way for them to move on from dipping their toes into the water to making a huge splash, if the game will find itself with great success.
Pokémon Go will be released in 2016 on Android and iOS device, and it will reportedly be completely free.
