While celebrating the National Children’s Dental Health Month, Crow Wing County reminds people of the importance of periodical checkups. Residents need to influence their children and explain them the importance of dental care by signing up for Child and Teen Checkups program. Stacy Patnode, a public health nurse with the Child and Teen Checkup outreach program, stated that it is recommended to bring your child in for a checkup once a year starting at the age of 12 months.
- Children should be taught to use floss from an early age.
- Dentists advise kids to brush their teeth at least twice per day.
- To prevent cavities, kids should avoid the consumption of sweetened drinks.
She also claimed that it is important to reveal any small problem as early as possible because it would be less painful for the child and less expensive for the parent. Dentists can also help children prevent the occurrence of future cavities by placing dental sealants on their molar teeth.
Patnode also noted that dental health might seem a challenge for underprivileged families. Thus, they organize special events with dental providers bound to offer these families access to dental care services. Children should understand that dental health is part of their overall health. They need to learn how to maintain their oral hygiene, periodically visiting the dentist.
Parents should help children prevent the occurrence of oral diseases by regularly brushing their teeth, in their try to maintain them healthy. Kids should also know that oral illnesses, as well as cavities, are a hundred percent preventable. Despite this fact, they are extremely common. Statistics show that more and more children across Minnesota are affected by this type of oral diseases on a daily basis.
Luckily, there are many methods which could help you avoid developing oral diseases, and most of these methods can easily be used at home, being less expensive. Firstly, children need to be aware of the importance of brushing one’s teeth. They should brush their teeth at least twice a day.
Secondly, children should use toothpaste which has in its composition a substance called fluoride. It is recommended only for kids who are old enough to spit and rinse. It is advisable for children to also take into account fluoride rinses. Kids should also use dental floss at least once a day. Dentists recommend the consumption of fresh vegetables and fruits, avoiding sweetened food and drinks to prevent the decay of their teeth.
