Arkansas Gov. Mike Beebe who will be outgoing soon has declared that he will pardon his son for a decade old drug conviction.
Beebe told KATV, ABC’s affiliate in Little Rock on Wednesday,“I would have done it a long time ago if he’d have asked, but he took his sweet time about asking. He was embarrassed. He’s still embarrassed, and frankly, I was embarrassed and his mother was embarrassed.”
The outgoing Governor’s son was charged in 2003 for possessing a controlled substance Marijuana with intent to distribute. He was sentenced to 3 years probation and was fined. Beebe was serving in the capacity of the state’s attorney general at the time.
Beebe said at the time, “If he broke the law, he needs to pay for it. He needs to be treated like everybody else — no better, worse.”
However today Beebe says that his son is mature, 34 and repented honestly for his mistake.
