Trump Blasts Amazon for “Scamming” the U.S. Postal Service

April 2, 2018 by Jakob Nielsen Leave a Comment

Presidential candidate Donald j. TrumpOn Saturday, President Donald Trump blasted Amazon for using the U.S. Postal Service as its “delivery boy” and causing Americans “tremendous loss” by not paying its taxes.

“This Post Office scam must stop,” the President tweeted after suggesting that an increase in parcel rates would boost the company’s shipping costs by $2.6 Billion. Trump was also upset that the e-commerce giant led to the closure of “many thousands” of U.S. businesses.

I have stated my concerns with Amazon long before the Election. Unlike others, they pay little or no taxes to state & local governments, use our Postal System as their Delivery Boy (causing tremendous loss to the U.S.), and are putting many thousands of retailers out of business!

The President is right that more and more U.S. retailers declare bankruptcy and shut down business in the face of the competition from Amazon. In rural areas, Americans find it harder to get a retail job. Yet, Amazon is now finishing what Walmart started a generation ago. Small brick-and-mortar stores have been forced to shut down as they couldn’t compete against Walmart’s pricing and offers.

Trump Thinks Amazon Benefits from Special Delivery

Nevertheless, the e-commerce giant pushes things to a whole new level, as it makes the shopping experience more convenient. With Amazon’s fast delivery times and free shipping, many buyers do not even leave their homes to make a purchase.

The U.S. president is now concerned that Amazon would benefit just a select few, while leaving the vast majority jobless or with fewer options. The same logic led to stricter international trade rules and extra protections on the coal industry.

  • Currently, the Commander in Chief accuses Amazon of making its business more competitive thanks to preferential package rates from the Post system.
  • His claims are based on a recent report from Citigroup about the USPS’s rates.

Over the weekend, Trump also accused the Amazon-owned Washington Post of being an unregistered “lobbyist” that pushes for Amazon founder Jeff Bezos’ agenda. Bezos is now considered the richest person in the world with a net worth of $120.1 billion.

…does not include the Fake Washington Post, which is used as a “lobbyist” and should so REGISTER. If the P.O. “increased its parcel rates, Amazon’s shipping costs would rise by $2.6 Billion.” This Post Office scam must stop. Amazon must pay real costs (and taxes) now!
