West Antarctica glaciers melting rate triples during last 21 years

December 3, 2014 by Jakob Nielsen 6 Comments

The effect of global warming are being noticed in Antarctica as the glaciers are melting at a faster rate than they are supposed to be.

According to researchers, the glaciers melting rate has tripled over the past decade in the fastest melting part of Antarctica. The glaciers of Amundsen sea are melting at a faster rate than other part of Antarctica according to the researchers.

Researchers claim this report after analysing the rate with the rate of past 21 years. These glaciers of the Amundsen sea are largely responsible for the growing sea level.

According to the previous report, the glaciers of West Antarctica have enough water to increase the sea level by one meter. It also adds, the melting rate is speeding up and is also irreversible.

This study was concluded by using radars and satellites belonging to NASA and European Space Agency. It made use of the atmospheric climate model put forth by the University of Utrecht in the Netherlands.

According to the analysis, since 1992, total volume of ice lost is 83 gigatons per year (on an average). Mount Everest that weighs 161 gigatons altogether has melted to the Antarctic glacier every one year.

The study further says, the rate of melting has increased after 1992 by 6.1 gigatons per year (on an average). Also, during 2003 to 2009, the rate is reported to be risen by 16.3 gigatons per year, which is nearly tripled during the last 21 years.

According to Isabella Velicogna, who was one of the participants in the study, the majority of the mass has been lost in the last ten years, which suggests an increase in the intensity of ice melting.

The results are disturbing and if the same thing follows, then according to the researchers the end of the planet Earth is not too far.

According to NASA’s own data via Remote Sensing Systems(RSS), the world has warmed a mere .36 degrees Fahrenheit over the last 35 years (they started measuring the data in 1979).

Weakening the global warming argument is data showing that the North Polar ice cap is increasing in size. Recent satellite images from NASA actually reflect an increase of 43% to 63%.

Mr. Jakob needs to take remedial English lessons, the Chicago school system failed him. He must be renowned for something besides journalism. And, the content of this article is poppycock. We are so arrogant to think we can change Mother Nature.

This is BS data like the rest of the global warming garbage. They cherry pick ONE area to fit their model while the rest is growing! Shame on you “journalists” for not exposing this farce.

The other part they don’t tell anyone about is that the cold temperatures from the 1800s they use come directly after Krakatoa erupted and lowered world temperatures by a significant amount. No one ever exposes this. The entire thing is a crock of S word.
