Destiny 2 Won’t Be Released in 2016

January 24, 2016 by Jakob Nielsen Leave a Comment

"Destiny poster"

In Destiny players take the roles of guardians that have to defend the Last City on Earth.

Even though rumors of a September launch circulated for a while, it seems that Destiny 2 won’t be released in 2016 after all. The news doesn’t come as much of a complete surprise because of the fact that the September launch of the second part of the franchise was just rumored by developers and never confirmed by Bungie or Activision.

  • Bungie has released three expansion packs for Destiny since its launch in 2012
  • Destiny 2 Won’t Be Released in 2016
  • There will be no additional DLC content for the on-line game
  • Destiny has been the highest grossing on-line game after selling $500 million worth of copies after only a day since its release

Destiny is a massive on-line role-playing game that has been launched in 2012. The story is set into an alternate somewhat mythical future in which humans were once almost eradicated by the darkness and they are trying to survive in the last settlement of humankind known as “The Last City”. But danger is lurking again and the Guardians (the players) who are the last line of Earth’s defense must use their light wielding powers to protect the planet and the last humans from cruel alien races set upon annihilation.

The players have an ultimate mission, and that is finding the Traveler, a supernatural being that is capable of defending the planet against the impending return of the Darkness. In order to do that, they travel on different planets where they face bloodthirsty aliens that are trying to kill them

Since its launch in 2012, the MMORPG has received three expansion packs with more missions and additions to the original story. Year One, The Dark Below and House of Wolves, the latest being released only this September were greatly appreciated by the fans because of the new features they brought to the game.

But it seems that Destiny 2 won’t be released in 2016 and the fans of the game are rather disappointed with this news. The original Destiny was so awaited by the on-line gaming community that it sold, in only the first day after launch, $500 million worth of copies. This says a lot about the enthusiasm of the gamers.

There is also some additional bad news, apart from the fact that Destiny 2 won’t be released in 2016, and that is the original game will not receive any DLC’s.

The Destiny playing community has reacted to the news quite loudly which may have an impact on Bungie and Activision, a sort of a boost to get things running and, at least, release the second part somewhere in the beginning of 2017.
