Bill Nye, the science guy, is a celebrated TV presenter and mechanical engineer who made quite a name for himself during the early 90s. After being involved in several science projects regarding methods to reverse the effects of climate change, Bill Nye wants electric cars to compete in NASCAR.
- Bill Nye is a retired mechanical engineer;
- During the 90s, he managed to make science fun and popular with a TV show;
- NASCAR still employs gas-powered muscle cars;
- The event began in 1948 and was founded by Bill France, the Senior.
- Nye declared that electric cars will become popular if they are used in competitions like NASCAR.
As shocking as this statement might be, the science guy does have a point. Although many carmakers have reached the conclusion that the future lies in electric cars, some of them are still entwined by tradition. NASCAR is the perfect example of this statement.
Although the TV presenter is a big fan of racing, he recently wrote down in an article, that he is somewhat dissatisfied with NASCAR stubbornness of enlisting only cars with gas engines. He also added that even though NASCAR is great and all it is still a celebration of obsolete technology. Of course, the celebrated TV star is referring to the gas-powered engine, a piece of technology that not only consumes an infernal amount of fuel but also contributes to the climate shift.
Besides criticizing NASCAR for still using gas-powered engines, the science guy brings forth a sensible solution to the problem: electric vehicles. Yes, you heard it right! Bill Nye wants electric cars to compete in NASCAR, probably the most popular car event apart from the 24-houred Le Mans annual race.
Bill Nye also added that this is good opportunity to boost the popularity of electric cars. In the self-created scenario, Nye mentioned the fact that electric car manufacturers such as Tesla will be able to sell electric cars like hot bread if these vehicles would become stars in the NASCAR competition. Basically, every NASCAR fan will come out of the race, screaming at the top of his lungs that he wants a car as awesome as that from NASCAR.
Note the fact that NASCAR already tackled the electric car idea, but, unfortunately, the whole thing was a fiasco. Meaning that every time someone puts “electric cars” and “NASCAR” in the same sentence, the company comes rolling down like thunder, forever chanting the case of the STP-Paxton turbo car, which didn’t meet the event’s required specification.
Bill Nye wants electric cars to compete in NASCAR, pointing out the fact that, historically speaking, racing competitions worked wonders on making a certain car model popular. One would recollect Ford’s vehicle which was initially designed to be a race car.
As the scientist pointed out, it’s a win-win situation meaning that both man and Nature would profit from this change.

A very good suggestion Bill, a case can be made (electric torque monsters) RC cars with a roar!
Glad to hear your shared ideas/positive changes vs bashing Christians.
