Cambridge Schools Increase Security

More police is outside Cambridge schools these days due to gun threats

After a gun threat made against several schools via email, Cambridge schools increase security as parents are becoming more concerned.

• Three middle-schools have received gun violence threats over the past two weeks
• Parents are concerned with their children’s safety
• The threats are thought to be coming from the same person or group

In the past two weeks Cambridge schools have received three threats of violence. The schools that were threatened are the Vassal Street School, the Putnam Avenue Upper School and the Amigos School. However, police has decided to increase security for all public schools in Cambridge.

All of the threats were sent anonymously via email in a period of less than two weeks which indicates that they are most likely coming from the same person or group. Of course, parents are getting anxious and are afraid of dropping off their children to school. On the other hand, some of them believe the threats are nothing more but threats, thinking that someone who actually wants to do harm won’t announce it beforehand.

Police is taking all necessary precautions. They have conducted walk-throughs with dogs before 6:30 a.m. Furthermore, police vehicles are placed outside the school and officers stand at each corner of the school as well as in the lobby. In this way, they will be able to see everyone who goes in and out and observe anything that might seem suspicious.

Despite the fact that the threats could mean nothing more, the parents’ concern is understandable, as we are talking about middle-school children. Moreover, given how the threats have put police in motion, how concerned parents feel for their kids’ safety and how anxious the kids might be, if the threats were only meant to scare the population they definitely reached their goal.

With everything going on in the world, wars, refugees, the Paris terrorist attacks, the more recent actions in California, a gun violence threat on middle-schools is definitely something to be taken serious as it seems that no matter who, where, when you are, you can no longer feel safe and secure.
