Endangered species are dying because government is waiting too long
Endangered species seem to be the last problem authorities have these days. We know that there are a lot of events happening, but someone should really be aware that so many animals are in danger. A species waits to be protected by the law for at least 12 years, which is much longer than what was supposed to happen.
- Species are waiting for years before the government protects them.
- The Center for Biological Diversity wants to sue the FWS because they did not protect over 417 animals and plans in the last year.
Many people do not seem interested in these animals because they are busy with their lives. Do not forget that most of us eat meat from animals. One day there will be more endangered species because people are not taking care of the environment. According to a new report, there are species who waited for 38 years until they were protected by law. Animals from that species could be dead in that period of time.
Before getting protection, a species must be listed as endangered. The U.S. laws say that a two-year timeline is afforded for the listing process. Researchers used data from more than one thousand species, between 1973 and 2014. They discovered that many species did not make it while they were waiting for protection. Moreover, vertebrates are listed faster the invertebrates or plants.
What happens when a species is protected by law? First of all, you can’t hunt those animals. Moreover, scientists will make a plan and there will be also money allocated for them.
The Center for Biological Diversity wants to sue the FWS because they did not protect over 417 animals and plans in the last year. Researchers said that delayed protection can be dangerous for species that already having problems. If the authorities are waiting too long, it will be more difficult and expensive to save those animals. They have to decide faster what species are important and which will be protected.
People could also help by taking care of animals. We are responsible for most of the endangered species. Of course, climate change is a major threat to the animals too. If we could pay more attention to our planet, things would be different. The authorities will not protect all those species in the near future.
