Goodyear has just unveiled two new groundbreaking tire technologies at the Geneva International Motor Show.
The two new groundbreaking tire technologies were developed by Goodyear and presented at the 85th Geneva International Motor Show. The company claims that the two technologies have the potential of drastically changing the role of car tires in the near future.
Goodyear created two concept tires, which means that they aren’t yet materialized. The concept is meant to stretch the imagination and even give a glimpse into what tire innovations may be in the near or distant future.
The first tire technology is dubbed by Goodyear BH03 and it offers the possibility of charging the batteries of electric cars. It does this by transforming the heat the tire generates into electrical energy. The more you run the tire, the more electrical energy it produces.
Electric cars are on the rise and the most stringent problem with them is their battery. This groundbreaking tire technology from Goodyear has the potential to resolve many issues and offer more mobility that it is now possible and it will also help popularize electric cars.
The second tire technology is called Triple Tube and it refers to the three tubes inside the tire that have the task of adjusting tire inflation pressure according to road conditions. Let’s say you’re going over a bumpy road, your new Goodyear tires will know this and they will adjust their pressure accordingly. The versatility of this new technology could help revolutionize not just tires, but the entire car.
The Triple Tube tires rely on an internal pump that simply moves air from the primary air chamber to three individual air tubes or chambers. This allows the tire to adjust its own pressure to three different positions based on real road conditions.
Goodyear’s senior vice president and chief technical officer, Joe Zekoski, said that these two new groundbreaking tire technologies reimagine the role that car tires will play in the future.
He stated that Goodyear envisions a future where their products become more integrated with the consumer and the vehicle, more versatile and more environmentally friendly.
He added:
It is more important than ever for us to stay firmly rooted in our market-back innovation process, which calls on us to focus on, and anticipate, the rapidly evolving needs of our customers.
The tires will not be available on the market any time soon, because at the time being, they are still concepts, but the technology behind them does give us a sneak peek into the future of tires and the way cars are going to function.
