- The update is available for Android devices in many countries
- It will roll out for iOS device in the future
Reading through the small screen of your smartphone can be quite a pain sometimes. Not only is the text often far too small to be readable full screen, by zooming in, you lost a lot of control. It would require zooming in and out, panning, and shifting that would ruin your experience. Any PDF file was essentially a nightmare, rarely good for a phone.
However, Google recently upgraded their e-book reader for the purpose of making everything easier. Comic books were near impossible to go through, but the new update just made it far simpler. Instead of the constant panning that disrupted your experience, Play Books can efficiently help you to enjoy comics.
From the complicated movement, the software can now read the formats and users can navigate through it by simply scrolling down. It requires just a swipe to take users from one frame to the next. The strict page dimensions are gone. The new update will be purposefully aimed at comic book readers, and it certainly sounds efficient.
Users will be able to flip their screen into landscape mode and then just swipe up or down to progress through the story. There will be no more panning left and right, no need for zooming, or anything else. The Google Play Books will make your experience go much smoother, if you plan on reading on your phone.
It’s perhaps not the most ideal of settings, but it’s certainly easy and handy.
Google has also voiced out the ambition of making browsing through comics simpler, as well as finding other interesting reads. And that could certainly be a good thing. There are hundreds of issues, and too many launches to count. It takes an effort just to keep up with them if one is interested in more than one series.
Google Play now has a new section which includes everything comic related, including releases from big publishers such as Marvel, DC, Dark Horse, Image, or IDW. Even more, to sample out their newest update, Google offered a few free comics for the next week. This included several issues from ‘The X-Files’.
The update will start rolling out gradually for Android users in the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Ireland, South Africa, Australia, New Zealand, India, and Singapore. The update for the iOS should soon follow.
