After years of investigations, it seems NASA finally set alien encounter in space through the observations that their Kepler Space Telescope has made this week. The celestial body KIC 8462852 has such strange a behavior that scientists think could only be explained through “alien megastructures”.

- Possible explanations for KIC 8462852’s erratic behavior

Kepler Space Telescope has recently discovered the KIC 8462852 star, which has a completely different behavior compared to its space neighbors. The celestial body was first spotted in 2011, but subsequent images suggested it was periodically dimmed by unknown causes.
Scientists were surprised to see that the light curves of the stars dimmed at given intervals. They decided to keep the star under close observation in an attempt to explain its behavior. In the 800th day, scientists thought the star completely vanished from sky’s map as the light of the body was dimmed by 15 percent.
Nevertheless, NASA experts continued to investigate the space phenomenon. According to their statistics the light level of the star was dimmed by 22 percent in the 1,500th day. Given this new discovery, researchers have concluded that it must be something besides star transition dimming KIC 8462852.
Most stars transiting our solar system would only dim the newly found planet by 1 percent, which is why researchers are now working to find the correct explanations. They initially considered the regular dimming of the planet was caused by a possible malfunction of the Kepler Telescope.
This theory was debunked by subsequent observations of planets in KIC 8462852’s vicinity. The latter appeared to have normal light levels; therefore researchers have concluded that Kepler was not to be blamed.
When looking at the structure of the planet, researchers have noticed that the star functioned normally. Scientists have compared it to other planets with light variability and they have discovered that they had a different structure than the present celestial body.
The only conclusion that scientists have reached was that the star is regularly blocked by outside sources. Various suppositions have been made in relation to the outside sources that may be blocking the star, including the presence of debris in the asteroid belt, debris in the solar system, as well as proto-planets existing in the nearby clouds of dust.
The aforementioned hypotheses have been labeled as natural explanations, but some scientists have gone somewhat further and set the grounds for the “alien megastructure theory”. According to this theory, the dimming of the star is caused by an alien civilization harnessing the energy from the respective sun. In their opinion, alien civilizations put this star to work, so they would have resources on their planet.
