A doctor from New York City took the time to contact a woman that appeared in an episode of “Beachfront Bargain Hunt” on HGTV to tell her that she might have thyroid cancer.
The medic noticed a strange lump on the woman’s neck that her doctors had failed to identify as cancer.
Dr. Erich Voigt is an expert in ear, neck, and throat diseases, aka an otolaryngologist. After seeing the woman on TV, the man posted on Facebook that the lump on the woman’s neck was clearly cancerous.
She needs a sonogram and fine needle biopsy. I wonder if she knows and hope it’s benign,
Dr. Voigt’s post reads.
One of his followers asked him to contact the TV channel to see if he could get in touch with the show’s guest. The doctor emailed the producers, but he was able to contact the woman via a Facebook user who saw his post.
The TV Diagnosis Was a “Miracle”
Other people who saw the post notified Nicole McGuinness, the woman on the screen (pictured). She said that she had no idea that the mass on her neck may mean trouble. Biopsy results revealed that she had thyroid cancer indeed.
The woman noted that her own health professionals had not noticed the lump on her neck.
- She underwent a biopsy and a sonogram at Voigt’s recommendation.
- She will now have to undergo surgery to get the lump removed.
“I hope she will be cured!,” Dr. Voigt wrote in another post.
Recently, McGuiness told ABC News that Voigt’s diagnosis while watching her on the show was a “miracle.” She added that she was extremely grateful to the doctor.
When contacted by reporters, the NY doc said he “felt obliged” to tell the North Carolina woman that she should get checked for cancer.
