There are a few things that improve with age: wine, cheese, and our mental health. It seems that when people are older, they are happier . Even though it was thought that when you get old the mental health declines, things might be different. According to a study published in the Journal of Clinical Psychiatry, people in senior years were happier and more satisfied with their lives than those who had 20 years old.

Researchers used a data of over 1500 participants, aged 21 to 99, who are living in California. They discovered that most of the patients were having a good mental health and they were enjoying their life. People said that they are feeling better and more self-confident with every year. Even though for some people this could come as a surprise, there is a simple reason why this is happening.
When you are young, you have a lot of things going on. You want to build a career that would help you have the money you want. You also think about your private life, having a relationship and going out with friends in your free time. Moreover, if you have a child, things are more complicated because you are responsible for his life. Young people have to make right decisions, have no experience and sometimes this can be hard for them. An older person knows how to handle things because he/she learned a lot in the past.
Older people become wiser due to what happened to them when they younger. They had more time to know people, to travel, to see what life is really about. They are not stressed because most of them have the families they always wanted, are happy and all they want is to enjoy life. They also have more free time, which gives them the opportunity to do things they like without worrying about the money.
Of course, there are people who are struggling with mental diseases and their life is in danger. For example, Alzheimer’s symptoms begin after 60 years-old. However, the study might be right because older people know how to handle things. When you had so many events in your life, some of them good, some of them bad, you already know what things are really important. We should learn from them and be happier because life is full of great things.
