If you wish to lose weight but you don’t know what program is truly effective, science may have found the answer for you. A research has proven that there are two weight programs that can actually make you lose weight and remain slim.
The world is filled with commercials and adds promoting weight loss plans that promise to get your body into shape once and for all. These adds are everywhere, on television, on the internet, on the street, and it is not easy to make the right choice.
But how many of the weight loss programs we see advertised are actually effective? A recent study has shown that only two, out of 32 that are being promoted all around the world proved to actually work, those programs being Jenny Craig and Weight Watchers.
The verdict saying that these two weight programs are efficient is based on scientific research. The majority of the programs haven’t been scientifically tested and have only received reviews, explained doctor Kimberly Gudzune, lead author of the study from the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine from Baltimore.
What prompted this study was the obesity factor, and the doctor’s urge to know what is effective when it comes to losing weight. Sixty percent of the American adults suffer from obesity or are overweight, which more than often leads to serious health problems.
The study has been published in the Annals of Internal Medicine, hasn’t been sponsored by any of the weight loss programs and has been supported by many other health institutions.
Last year, weight loss businesses made around $2.5 billion, Weight Watchers being the leader with 45%, showed statistics made by the study. The next on the top, was Nutrisystem with 14% of the market followed by Jenny Craig with 13%.
All of these weight loss plans are very famous but this doesn’t help medical experts in determining which one is working and has long lasting results. This is exactly the reason why this study has been conducted, as doctors have to know what they can recommend to their patients.
For now, Weight Watchers and Jenny Craig are the only programs that have been studied and proved to being helpful in losing weight and having long lasting effects.
The results of the experiment showed that the participants who have been given the Jenny Craig program have shown 5% higher weight loss results after 12 months, than the group who was following a diet based on healthy nutrition.
On the other hand, Weight Watchers volunteers have shown a 3% higher weight loss after a year, than the group who followed a healthy eating diet.
Nutrisystem is another program that showed efficiency during an experiment, but due to the fact that it has been monitored for only three months, it couldn’t prove the relevance of the results over a longer period of time, as stated in the report.
Another thing pointed out by the research was the fact that diets based on low caloric foods have results only for short periods of time and after a while, people put back on, all the kilograms they have lost. Among others, the study has also analyzed apps such eDiets, Lose It! or The Biggest Loser, which are all diet plans.
Some of them seemed to be efficient but only for short time weight loss, while others seemed to fall short of what was advertised. So whoever is looking to follow one of these plans, is advised to consult their doctor first.
Enrolling in a program as such could cost from to almost $700 per month. For example Jenny Craig has a cost of $570 per month, while Weight Watcher costs 10 times less, with $43 per month. Nutrisystem’s price range is around $280 per month.
Jim White, the owner of Fitness and Nutrition Studios from Virginia, stated that the reason these two programs work is because of the fact that they come with a structured plan and provide counseling and support for those who are looking to drop some kilograms. These are programs that educate people and teach them the meaning of balance and how to change lifestyle and your future.
We all know that sizing your food portion is elemental when it comes to losing weight and this is another thing that is taught and inserted into people’s diet education.
Researchers stressed on the fact that even if the dietary plans released by the U.S. Department of Agriculture and by the American Heart Association are very well done, they are not the same in terms of structure and guidance along the process. It has been proved that people need guidance and advice along the way as weight loss programs work best when they are assisted in all the steps they need to follow because many will not succeed on their own.
