Recent report results unveiled by the Associated Press have shown the fact that the abortion rate has dropped in almost every state in the US since the prior investigations in connection to this matter, which took place five years ago. Even if some states have firmer laws when it comes to taking the life of an unborn child, other are more liberal from this point of view, and this did not interfere with the general lowering of the abortion rate in the United States. Overall, there are by 12 per cent less abortions happening in the United States by now than there were in 2010. Some claim that this is a success of the changes which occurred within the American society at a moral level, regarding abortion. Others say that the laws making abortion a difficult process to proceed to have led to this situation. And while both seem to be true, the teen pregnancy rate has also dropped along with the abortion rate, even if there are not official numbers in this case by now. Anyway, it looks clear that the American people have proceeded to abortion in fewer cases, and a events recently unfolded suggest that another state joins the trend, as Wisconsin passes 20 week abortion ban bill.
The Wisconsin Senate will vote on the matter of banning non emergency abortions after the 20th week of pregnancy on Tuesday. Since the Senate of the state of Wisconsin has a majority of Republican members, things seem to be decided already.
The Health Committee of the Wisconsin Senate has approved this measure recently, in a vote last week that confirmed the Committee`s agreement with the ruling. The result of the vote was 3 – 2, with the Republicans being in favor of the measure and the Democrats manifesting disagreement.
The supporters of this bill and of the banning of abortion after the 20th week of pregnancy in general claim that an unborn is able to feel pain after that period of time and thus abortion would represent a painful, merciless crime.
On the other hand, the ones who oppose such bills and pledge for the right of the women to have control over their body say that an unborn can only feel pain after the 27th week of pregnancy.
Since the Republicans have the majority in the Wisconsin Senate, most political analysts do not expect any surprises in connection to the passing of the 20 week abortion ban bill.
