Based on recent reports, YouTube is launching Gaming in response to Google’s Twitch, an Amazon-owned live streaming video platform. YouTube has reportedly tried to acquire Twitch on numerous occasions, but failed to do so because of antitrust problems.
According to the description provided by tech analysts, YouTube aims to convince 2 million online viewers to use the new video sharing website. As the name says it, the new website will be focused on gaming activities. There will be approximately 25,000 pages that will provide visitors all the information they want to know on their favorite games.
Sometimes video reviews are not enough to give potential players the real feel of the game. As a consequence, YouTube’s Gaming will also live stream action from famous gaming channels.
The reverse is also valid; users can upload their personal URLs if they want other users to have access to the live stream of their games. The URLs will be available on YouTube, due to the Stream app, which has already been launched in a beta version.
The official announcement was published by engineering manager Frank Petterson, who has strong beliefs when it comes to gaming. He declared that YouTube’s Gaming platform will be launched to create a large online community that will serve the interests of gamers all over the world. In addition to bringing people with same passions together, the video sharing platform will also improve gaming and related activities, the manager has concluded.
YouTube engineers tried to incorporate as many gaming options on their website. So far, they have included a DVR Mode, which gives users the possibility to record and play their favorite game when they have the time to do it.
Reports indicate that YouTube’s decision to create a gaming platform will most likely lead to bigger revenues. Games represent the third most popular category of videos, preceded only by music and children videos.
Starting on Wednesday, the Gaming video sharing platform will be available in all countries where YouTube is accessible. However, the iOS and Android apps will only be available in U.S. and U.K in the beginning. The rest of the countries will start using them at a later period of time.
